Best Coffeeshops and Bakeries in Louisville, Kentucky

One of my favorite things to do when I’m out of town is try all the local coffeeshops. Don’t get me wrong, if Starbucks is the only and/or most convenient option, I am not opposed. However, there’s just something about those local places that make the drink taste so much better! My hometown, Louisville, Kentucky, is full of delicious coffeeshops, bakeries, and restaurants, and lucky for you, I’ve lived here my entire life and have had plenty of time to try them out! Here’s my guide to all the best, local coffeeshops and bakeries in Louisville, Kentucky!

Blue Dog Bakery

A local favorite, Blue Dog Bakery serves up European inspired fresh made bread and pastries! You can also grab a sandwich, salad, or soup made with fresh, local ingredients. The dining room + patio tables are first come first serve, but they also offer carryout! Brunch is served from 9am to 2pm and lunch is served from 11am to 2pm.

Quills Coffee

Quills Coffee is hands down one of my f a v o r i t e coffee shops in Louisville! Their flavorful coffee and delicious pastries got me through college–seriously, I would love to know how much money I spent at Quills alone. With various locations throughout the city, it’s super easy to stop in for a quick visit whenever you need a little pick me up! My personal favorite locations are in Nulu and The Highlands! I recommend their Iced Caramel Latte or an Iced Chai (dirty if you need that extra boost) and if they have it, you must get the pumpkin chocolate chip loaf (it’s to die for)!

Sunergos

Like Quills, Sunergos was a staple for me during college and my first year as a nurse (it was quite dangerous having one located on my route to work). Sunergos roasts their own beans and has a rotating daily drip. The baristas are incredibly knowledgable and helpful if you have any questions on their products! I’m a big Iced Caramel Latte girl, and Sunergos’ is up their with Quills as one of my favorites in the city. Check them out at one of their various locations, you will not be disappointed!

Wiltshire Pantry

Wiltshire Pantry is a bakery and cafe that has artisan crafted pastries, bread, breakfast, and lunch! It’s the perfect place for grabbing a coffee and quick bite. They also provide catering! They have two locations, one in The Highlands and one Downtown, and are present at various markets throughout the city!

Addresses:

  • The Highlands: 901 Barrett Ave, Louisville, KY 40204
  • Downtown: 605 W. Main Street, Louisville, KY 40202
Please and Thank You

Another notable coffee shop in Louisville is Please and Thank You! Most famously known for the best chocolate chip cookie, Please and Thank you also has coffee and refreshing teas + lemonade! I personally recommend the Rosemary Lemonade, especially on a hot summer day! Stop by one of their many locations and see for yourself what the hype is about those cookies (they really are amazing)!

Bean

Located in Germantown, Bean provides a cozy and friendly atmosphere and serves house roasted coffees, delicious food, and fresh made smoothies! It is the perfect place to study, work, or catch up with a friend!

Address: 1138 Goss Ave, Louisville, KY 40217

Hours: Sunday-Saturday 7am-7pm

Safai

Safai Coffee is located in The Highlands and not only serves up a good cup of coffee, but also has amazing crepes! One of my favorite things about Safai is their ‘sunroom’ area that you can sit in to study, read, or meet a friend. I sat in there during a thunderstorm once and it was so peaceful!

Address: 1707 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40205

Hours: Monday-Friday: 7am-5pm; Saturday + Sunday: 8am-5pm

Ntaba Coffee Haus

Ntaba brings fresh, organic coffee from Africa to Louisville. This quaint coffee shop also has a small grocery selection full of ingredients and snacks from Africa! It is definitely a different, but tasty, experience compared to the other coffeeshops in the city! They have two locations located in different parts of the city so be sure to check one of them out on your next trip to Louisville!

Heine Brothers

Heine Brothers Coffee has been a Louisville staple for over 30 years, so you’ll see them all throughout the city! They offer organic, fair trade coffee plus a diverse selection of breakfast sandwiches and wraps, scones, muffins, + other pastries. They have rotating seasonal drinks, my favorite is their Iced Honey Lavender Latte in the Spring time and various non-espresso caffeinated beverages! Be sure to visit one of their many locations!

These are just a handful of the amazing coffeeshops and bakeries in Louisville! With so many options it’s hard to choose from, luckily they are spread throughout the city so no matter what area you’re staying in, you’re bound to have a great place for getting coffee!
