Best Places to Eat in Charleston, South Carolina

If there’s any opinion of mine that I know to be true, is that the south has the BEST food! Being from Kentucky, though Louisville isn’t that southern, we know how to COOK and EAT! I knew while visiting Charleston I was going to enjoy some of the best southern eats and I was not disappointed! Here’s my guide, from one foodie to another, of some of the best places to grab a bite in Charleston, South Carolina!

Chez Nous

6 Payne Ct, Charleston, SC 29403

Serving up delicious French and European food and wine, Chez Nous is a small, eclectic restaurant with a rotating menu. Make a reservation and enjoy a little taste of France in the south–if the weather is nice, try to eat on their patio (it’s super cute). Funny story, my friend and I went in the middle of a tropical storm + accidentally made the reservation outside; though kind of eerie from the wind, we still had an amazing time + got lucky with no rain. Be sure to allow time to find parking, as they have no parking lot + rely on street parking for the customers.

Chicken + broccolini at Husk
Husk

76 Queen St, Charleston, SC 29401

When I think of southern eats, Husk is one the top places that come to mind. Not only does the food say “southern eats”, but the entire restaurant looks like something out of a Southern Living magazine. Enjoy your meal while dining in a restored Victorian home that gives off a special charm you can only find in the south. Husk has a rotating menu as well and utilizes fresh, locally sourced ingredients to provide you with a one of a kind experience.

The Obstinate Daughter

2063 Middle St, Sullivan’s Island, SC 29482

Located in Sullivans Island, The Obstinate Daughter was one of my favorite restaurants that we ate at during our trip! The menu is full of shareable items and from start to finish, my friend and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. I highly recommend ordering a couple of things and sharing them to get the full experience of their menu. Some menu items I would order again + again are the Ricotta Gnocchi and the Pecan Bourbon Creme Brûlée. Can you say, y u m m y? They were some of the best pasta and best dessert I’ve had! Needless to say, we left there with a full heart and an even fuller belly.

Magnolias

185 E Bay St, Charleston, SC 29401

If you’re looking for a sophisticated, southern restaurant then Magnolias is the place for you! Be sure to get a reservation early on as they do fill up fast (there was literally a line outside of the restaurant before it opened–it’s THAT good). We went for lunch and it was so, so, so delicious! Be sure to go with an empty stomach though because the food is rich and trust me, you’ll want to enjoy as much of it as possible. I recommend getting the Charleston Crab Cake + Dill Pickle Deviled Eggs for an appetizer and the Prosciutto & Apple Grilled Cheese. Everything was incredible! Next time I’m in Charleston, I definitely want to try their dinner menu!

Uncork

476 King St, Charleston, SC 29403

We stumbled upon Uncork while we were walking around and needed a quick bite to eat. It turned out to be one of our favorite places! Not only do they serve up delicious food, they also have a self serve wine bar serving up delicious wines from around the world! From charcuterie to pasta, they have the perfect dishes to pair with the wine. I recommend the Three Cheese Tortellini as it was absolutely amaaaaazing! If you’re a pasta lover like me then run, don’t walk, over to Uncork and grab this dish + enjoy some tasty wine with it! The whole restaurant provided a relaxing environment, so it’s the perfect place to go when you don’t want to get too dressed up.

Mercantile and Mash

701 E Bay St, Charleston, SC 29403

Mercantile and Mash was very different compared to the other restaurants we went to, and not in a bad way. It’s a mix of grab + go and sit down + eat, so it’s perfect for whatever you have planned for that day. My friend and I both go the breakfast wrap + avocado and it was extremely tasty! They also have one of the best Lavender Lattes I’ve ever had, if you’re into gourmet coffee drinks. It seemed like this was a popular study spot, so seating may be difficult to find; however, they do have outdoor seating if the weather is nice.

I’m sure there are tons more delicious restaurants to eat at in Charleston and I very much look forward to trying them all! If you have any favorite restaurants in Charleston, leave them in the comments! For fun things to do and see, head over to my guide on Best Things to do in Charleston!
